Interview Don’ts

by | Jul 11, 2020 | Article

You only have a few minutes to make a good first impression.  When interviewing for a job, here are my top things I think you shouldn’t do.

Don’t show up late.

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time so you aren’t late and you don’t arrive  feeling frantic.

Don’t be on your phone.

Check your email and social media before you arrive.  Be ready to be called to your interview and do not have your phone in your hand.

Don’t talk too much.

Make sure to take time to listen.  Answer the questions asked of you, but don’t talk too much.

Don’t come in not knowing about the business or the job.

It is important to research the business before you come to the interview.  If you have researched the job description, you will be able to explain how you will be a good fit.

Don’t forget your manners.

It is important that you be respectful.  Make sure you address the interviewer with manners during the interview.  These small kindnesses communicate respect for others.

Don’t discuss benefits.

Don’t make the interview about what’s in it for you.  Make sure you aren’t the one to bring up pay, benefits, vacation, etc. especially during the first interview.
