Widsom: A Leaders Best Friend
Asking for wisdom is part of my prayer life every day. I ask God for wisdom to lead well and wisdom to share with others.
James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
Wow, if we lack wisdom, we need to ask for it and it will be given! There is no more precious gift for a leader than the wisdom that can apply our knowledge and experience to real world issues.
Over the years I have spent more hours in meetings than I care to think about—definitely in the multiple thousands. In most meetings I was the leader who was responsible for making the final decision. In any dialog, the best logic and information is needed but that is not enough. The missing piece in being an effective leader is wisdom. In most meetings I am praying for God to give me wisdom as I sort through the discussion.
Wisdom is a gift from the Spirit, and it is not lavished on leaders to cover their incompetence or lack of diligence. This wisdom is the gracious contribution of God to those who truly lead in order to serve. It is an answer to a sincere prayer.
