Time Becomes an Asset with Discipline

Today marks my 24,000th day on this earth, and that number alone stops me in my tracks. Every single day has been a gift. But as I reflect, I’m reminded of a truth that only sharpens with age: time becomes an asset when paired with discipline. Without discipline, time can slip into becoming a liability.

The reality is this: we can’t control how many days we get, but we can control how we use them.

Here are three simple but powerful practices I use each day to make my time an asset:

  • Study – Keep Learning

Growth doesn’t stop with experience; it accelerates with curiosity. When we commit to learning something new each day, whether through books, podcasts, conversations, or reflection, we position ourselves to pour more into others. Leaders who keep learning expand their capacity to lead. Everyone around you benefits from your growth.

  • Write – Clarify Thoughts, Goals, and Intentions

Writing isn’t just a discipline—it’s a tool for focus. When you put your thoughts, plans, and goals on paper, you activate your Reticular Activating System (RAS), the part of your brain that sharpens attention and fuels motivation. Writing is more than documentation; it’s direction.

  • Practice Healthy Living – Strengthen the Foundation

Leadership is demanding, and the foundation of effectiveness is health. Good nutrition, consistent sleep, and regular exercise aren’t luxuries; they’re leadership strategies. When you make disciplined choices for your body and your mind are better equipped to serve others.

The good news is discipline isn’t reserved for the few. It’s a daily choice, available to all of us. Whether you’re on your 10,000th day or your 30,000th day, you have the power to decide:

Will your time be an asset that multiplies your impact, or a liability that slips through unnoticed?

The clock is ticking. Discipline is the difference.
