WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE CONFRONTED
(A Good Follow-Up on Resolving Conflict)
Five Rules to Follow:
1. Don’t Get Defensive
We tend to defend ourselves.
2. Thank the Person For Coming Directly To You
Yes, thank them! They could have complained to others instead of
coming to you.
3. Listen and Do Not Interrupt
Focus on hearing what they have to say versus considering what you will say.
4. Apologize If You Are Wrong
Own it and be sincere in asking forgiveness.
5. If You Disagree:
A. Thank them and stay humble.
B. Process what they have shared.
C. Embrace the 2%.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THESE RULES?
If you are not approachable and people do not come to you, it will:
• Create blind spots for you
• Limit your growth
• Compromise relationships
