It’s early morning at the Sanders home, and as I sit down with my coffee, I’m reminded of the simple tool that has shaped my life and leadership for more than a decade—a plain 3×5 card.
Yes, a 3×5 card.
It might not look like much, but it’s my daily compass. This small card helps me lead my day instead of letting the day lead me. It keeps me focused, grounded, and intentional.
Here’s what’s on it—my six-pillar success plan:
1. Purpose for the Day
Every day needs a mission. Before I step into meetings, answer emails, or tackle to-dos, I ask, “What is the one thing I must accomplish today?” Clarity of purpose brings power.
2. Fueling Passion Points
What energizes you? For me, it’s equipping others to lead well and live well. That’s what gets me up at 5:30 a.m. Find your passion, and let it pull you forward.
3. Three Goals, Laser-Focused
I write down three key goals for the day. Just three. These aren’t random tasks—they’re needle-movers that align with my bigger vision.
4. Lead Measures That Drive Results
Dreams don’t become reality by accident. I jot down the specific actions that will lead me toward my goals. These lead measures are my roadmap to progress.
5. Discipline Over Comfort
I’ll be honest—I’m not naturally disciplined. But I’ve learned this: choosing what matters most over what feels easy builds a life without regret.
6. Three Priorities, Non-Negotiable
Amid the noise and demands of the day, I focus on three must-do priorities. If I get these done, I know I’ve made the day count.
On the back of the card? My gratitude list. Three things I’m thankful for. It shifts my perspective and reminds me that success without gratitude is hollow.
Friend, this 3×5 card has helped me live and lead with clarity for years—and it can do the same for you. When your mindset is right, your day follows. And when your day is aligned, your life begins to change.
Live on purpose. Lead with focus.
