In the book “The Ideal Team Player,” leadership expert Patrick Lencioni says you should hire people who are humble, hungry, and smart.
Let’s break that down:
-
Humble – being of little ego. An example is someone who focuses more on their teammates than themselves.
-
Hungry – they have a strong work ethic. These people are determined to get things done and have a healthy ambition.
-
Smart – this does not refer to being book smart or having pure intelligence. This person is considered “people smart.”
If you are a leader and responsible for hiring people, use “Humble, Hungry and Smart” as an evaluation tool.
Let me ask you a question, “Would you hire you?” If not, work on improving in these areas.
